Um, I already know the meme has enough of this kind of pairing, but...
Marth x Ike x Roy, but with a twist. I want it UNREQUITED. I want Marth and Roy to be fighting each other over Ike while he's all indifferent to them. Extra points if you can pair Ike with someone else besides these two, it's your choice.
Angst very welcome. Cursing also welcome.

Hey, can I make it end with MarthxRoy if Ike doesn't get either of them?

Friends Fight for Ike (part 1)
From a distance away, Marth stood behind a big maple tree watching a certain mercenary do his daily sword swinging. The prince has been standing there for more than a few hours already, but he wouldn't admit to himself that watching Ike from behind a tree was abnormal behavior. He had been building up the courage to confront the man, but every time he would step away from the tree, he would end up running back to gather his wits.
Letting out another long drawn out sigh, Marth looked to his target. He couldn't help but admire the swordsman; Ike was everything that he wasn't. Sure the man was blunt and maybe a little rude to someone of royal stature, but he was also bold and passionate about his friends. Along the way, Marth's admiration had turned into an attraction, and maybe a secret obsession, but again, he wouldn't admit that. He continued to watch the mercenary, paying extra attention to how concentrated Ike looked while he trained by himself.
That's it, I'm going over there. The Lowell made up his mind to face the mercenary. He was barely half way there when someone else had captured the attention of his Ike. He didn't know whether to cry or be angry, but upon closer inspection, that someone else was also someone he didn't know if he wanted to see or not. He debated between turning back to his maple tree and going up to the two swordsmen. His decision was made for him when Ike's guest had spotted Marth and waved him over.
"...Roy? Is that you?"
The shorter swordsman smiled at him and made a motion that he expected a hug. When he saw that the prince wasn't going to make a move, he dropped his arms to his side, though the smile never faded. Marth nervously glanced at Ike, who was looking at the two, somewhat confused.
"It's been a while Marth. I see you're doing well." Roy turned to Ike. "Hello, you must be the guy that replaced me."
The mercenary opened his mouth to object, but the chuckle from the Pherae lord made him calm down.
"The name's Ike."
"Roy, nice to meet you."
The two shook hands, while Marth, who was still a little uneasy, watched.
"Hey Marth, we've got a lot of catching up to do. Introduce me to all the new people, 'kay?"
Before Marth could say anything, his friend dragged him away by the arm. The prince took one more glance at Ike, who was already back to swing his sword in obscure angles.
As soon as they were out of earshot, Roy pulled Marth in front of him.
"Marth, what happened?"
"What are you talking about Roy?"
The Pheraen noble glared at him, but the anger melted away, replaced by sincerity.
"Marth, I still care about you. You might have moved on, but I still think about you, every night." He extended his arms to take Marth's hands into his own, but the prince pulled away and looked to his boots.
"I... Roy, there's... someone else..."
He didn't need to look up to know that Roy had crossed his arms, with that pouty look on his face.
"It's Ike isn't it?"
Marth's eyes widened. "H-how... I didn't say it was him!"
"Hm, so it is him." Roy looked over the prince's shoulders to where the mercenary was now throwing punches to nonexistent opponents. He raised an eyebrow. Strange for Marth to be so into a commoner. Well, we'll just see what's so great about this Ike person that has Marth acting like a shy school girl.
"R-Roy, where are you going?"

Friends Fight for Ike (part 2)
Roy didn't stop, even when Marth had grabbed on to the end of his cape. He simply pulled it out of the prince's grasp and continued to march towards the object of Marth's affections.
As he approached the taller man, his storming subdued along with his anger, and suddenly, he felt a little nervous. Shaking his head, Roy pushed the cowardice away and kept in mind the plan of action. Ike had spotted him apparently, so he couldn't just bail.
He didn't know if it was a misplaced object or just the wrong level of the ground, but the next thing Roy knew, he was falling forward. He braced himself for the rough landing and the humiliation of having Ike as a witness to his blunder. Instead, he felt a pair of strong arms hold him up, saving him from one thing, but not the latter.
Roy made the mistake of looking up before pulling away because he then found himself staring into noble blue eyes. His heart started beating fast against his chest and his ears grew warm. And what made the situation worse was that it was Ike's blue eyes that he's so caught up in and the look of worry on the other's face didn't help to decrease the growing blush on his own cheeks.
"You sure? You look a little red, are you sick or is the sun too strong?"
Roy pulled away, keeping them apart at arm’s length. He cleared his throat and looking anywhere but at the mercenary in front of him.
"I'm... I'm fine, thanks for asking."
"Okay then, but if you need the doctor, he's on the first floor, the third room on the left."
"I-I'll keep that in mind, thanks." The general coughed in his fist and wondered why he was stuttering over simple words.
"Sure. I'll see you later Roy, I have to be somewhere."
Ike waved farewell to the red head, who seemed a little dazed, but if he said he was okay, then the mercenary shouldn't worry so much. Roy watched the swordsman leave.
Roy silently cursed himself out for stumbling over words and the new guy for being so damn attractive and caring for his well being. He didn't sense Marth walk up behind him until the prince placed a hand on the lord's shoulder, jolting him out of his hysterical thoughts.
The Pheraen prince didn't say anything, just raised an eyebrow at the other confused prince. Marth didn't know what to expect, but the almost maniacal laughter that came from his friend almost scared him.
"Well Marth," Roy said after he settled down. "You don't have to worry about what I think about Ike anymore. I approve."
"So... you're okay if I pursue Ike?"
"I said I approve of Ike, not your crush on him."
"It's not a crush!" Marth protested. "Anyway, what do you mean by that?"
Roy tsked. "You'll find out soon enough."
Now Marth was really scared.

Friends Fight for Ike (part 3)
Ike was eating a plate of curry and rice when a voice interrupted his dinner. He looked up, recognizing the brilliant red hair that covered the gold and blue headband.
"Mind if I eat with you? It's a little lonely eating by myself."
"Sure, though, I would think you would be eating with Marth. He didn't abandon you did he?"
Roy merrily took a seat across from Ike, almost slamming his tray on the table.
"Oh no no, I just thought I should be making friends with the newcomers since I haven't been properly introduced. So anyway Ike, tell me about yourself. Where are you from? What have you been doing before you came here? Any relatives? What do you like to do in your spare time? What's your favorite food? Pirate or ninja?"
Ike dropped his spoonful of rice back on to his plate. Roy looked at him expectantly, his turkey sandwich untouched.
"Um, wow. That's a lot of questions. Well, I usually train in my spare time, since there's nothing else to do here, and it's a good workout. I have to keep in shape in order to lead the Greil Mercenaries. A few of my guys already don't have faith in me being the leader, so I have to prove them wrong by being strong."
Roy nodded as Ike tried to answer all his questions. He could tell that Ike wasn't one that liked to talk about himself. That was good, at least he's not a braggart.
"And um, Ninjas, as long as they don't destroy any villages."
The two generals looked up at their newest guest. Prince Marth Lowell stood nervously at the end of the table holding his tray of seafood spaghetti.
"Do you mind if I sit with you two?" Although he referred to the two of them, he was only staring at Ike.
Ike nodded his approval while Roy shrugged. Only when Marth slid his tray to the spot adjacent to Ike did the red head glare at his friend. The prince was a bit startled at the general's sudden hostility, but he wouldn't let that bother him, if it meant getting closer to Ike.
"Um, if I may ask, what were the two of you discussing before?"
"Not much, Roy just asked a bunch of questions about me."
"What kind of questions? I mean, I hope I'm not being intrusive." Marth quickly correctly himself. He really didn't want to seem nosy, but Roy's behavior was very curious, and his friend wasn't planning on telling him what he was up to.
"Not much, just things." Ike stuck his spoonful of curry into his mouth.
"Hey Ike, do you have... a girlfriend back at home?"
Marth nearly coughed out the shrimp he placed in his mouth. Is he doing what I think he is? Roy certainly seemed nonchalant about his question, but not everybody can read him like Marth can. Still, Marth couldn't help but anticipate the answer.
Ike simply shook his head and resumed his meal.
"How about a boyfriend?"
Roy had to cover his mouth to hide his laughter when both Marth and Ike simultaneously choked on their food and reached for their drinks.
"I-I'm sorry what?"
"Roy, what the hell kind of question was that? That's rude!"
The Pheraen shrugged and poked at his sandwich. He seriously wanted to know if Ike was single or not, and he was pretty sure that Marth wanted to know as well, so he didn't see why the prince was complaining.
"I don't know if you were being serious or not, but the answer is still no. I'm not in a relationship with anyone at the moment."
Ike then muttered something under his breath. The two princes weren't able to hear all of what he said but the words "Soren", "creepy", and "Elincia" stuck out.
"Sorry about that, it was a real question. But you answered seriously and honestly, I like that."
Marth let the spaghetti fall off his fork. Okay, now I know something is up. Roy knows that I like Ike, so WHY THE HECK IS HE FLIRTING WITH HIM RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FACE?
The prince gave made small glances at Ike and Roy every once in a while, alternating between the two. Roy couldn't have possibly... ...He just met Ike... And what about what we used to have? Didn't he say that he still cared about me? I don't understand him anymore... He absentmindedly spun his spaghetti around his fork, unaware that he had gathered about the entire plate on the small piece of silverware.

Friends Fight for Ike (part 4)
Roy saw how deep in thought Marth was, though he continued to chat it up with Ike. The Greil mercenary just wanted to finish his curry in peace, but that seemed nearly impossible with the red head throwing a question or comment at him every time he lifted his spoon.
"Oh, this sea food is delicious!"
Marth somehow got his tiny fork untangled from his spaghetti and was munching on the sea foods. Of course it seemed somewhat exaggerated that even Ike thought it sounded a little suspicious. Roy had raised an eyebrow at his friend. If this act was what he suspected, then Marth had caught on to his own intentions. Well then, Roy thought, let the games begin.
"Ike, you should try some!" The prince kept his smile wide. He wasn't really good at this flirting thing, but if Roy wanted to the enemy, then so be it, he's fighting back.
"Uh... well, that's not-"
A piece of crab was stuck in his mouth. Ike knew better to just shut up and chew, especially with Marth staring puppy eyes at him. Really, it just tasted like crab. He didn't even LIKE seafood!
"Oh, and the spaghetti is good too. It's soft and stringy but it matches well with the sea food."
The mercenary saw what was coming and quickly excused himself to the bathroom. Roy and Marth both knew he wasn't coming back.
"Well, nice going Marth, you just scared him off. He didn't seem like the sea food type anyway."
"Well Roy, I don't know what you were thinking, but I saw him first. I'd appreciate it if you backed off." The prince tapped his fingers against the table impatiently. "And what about that stuff you said about caring about me earlier? You can't really be serious about going after Ike."
"Maybe I am Marth. He's not with anyone right now, and I have as much of a chance with him as you. I won't be staying long, but by the time I leave, he will</> see me."
"... I don't how this happened, but we seem to be rivals again. But I won't lose to you this time."
Roy grinned. "Right, I always win." The Aritian prince turned away to hide his blush.

Friends Fight for Ike (part 5)
Ike sighed. He put his Ragnell at rest position against the shade of a tree trunk. He plopped down beside it and took a drink of his water. His stomach growled loudly at him. He wanted to punch his stomach to shut it up, but he knew that wouldn't do any good.
He had skipped breakfast, in case there was a repeat of what happened at dinner last night. Ike didn't even get a chance to finish his favorite curry meal. He didn't know what was going on with Marth and Roy, but he knew it wasn't good news to be around them if they were together at the same time.
...God dammit he was hungry... He wanted to cry because it was lunch time and there were several other Smash Brothers sitting underneath trees, eating nice picnic foods. Ike would go grab something at the cafeteria but he still wanted to avoid the two swordsmen.
Roy stood not too far from the end of Ike's feet. He was holding a wrapped box lunch, Ike noted.
"Sorry about yesterday, I feel it was kinda my fault you didn't finish your food. And I also noticed you weren't at breakfast today, so you must be really hungry. I made this for you, I hope you like it."
The general handed him the boxed lunch. Roy was so glad he had female friends like Lilina and Lalum to teach him how to cook his own meals.
"It's my own curry recipe, I hope it's okay since you said you liked spicy meat dishes."
"Wow, thanks Roy, this looks great." Ike hid his urge to drool all over the box.
"Well, enjoy your lunch Ike. I don't want to interfere with your meal again, but tell me how it is later, okay?"
Ike waved good bye at the retreating red head. As soon as Roy was out of sight, he ripped open the cover and devoured half of the contents in breakneck speed. He had to admit, that guy could cook.
"Oh, Ike, you're eating already."
Marth stood around the same place Roy had been just a few moments ago. In his hand, he held a clear container filled with chopped and assorted fruits.
"Um, I apologize deeply for yesterday Ike. I should have considered that you didn't like sea food. Um, I have some fruit for you, if you want to eat it after your lunch."
The prince handed the mercenary the fruits. Honestly, Marth wanted to make a box lunch for Ike, filled with his favorite foods and made with love, but... The thing is, Marth couldn't cook to save his life. And he wasn't so great at chopping things that used to have a pulse.
"I will be taking my leave now. Please excuse me."
Ike opened the box of fruit. He smiled at the apple slices that resembled little rabbits. Shoving a fork into one of the slices, he popped one into his mouth. The fresh and crispy fruit piece was able to lighten his mood entirely.
He contemplated the behavior of the two that had brought him lunch. If he hadn't known any better, he would have thought they were trying to get on his good side. He couldn't possibly have imagined why though, it wasn't like he was giving out rewards for being his best friend or anything.

Friends Fight for Ike (part 6)
"Hey Ike, there you are!"
It was Pokémon Trainer Red, without his usual red cap and vest, looking as cheery as ever. His arms were occupied with a box of something and a canteen of something else.
"Hey Red, what's up?"
"What's up?! You said you promised to help me sample my poffins, then you disappear for half a day and I have to go looking for you! I'm still new to this Sinnoh tradition but it can also be eaten by humans, so I would like to share some with everyone."
The trainer took a seat by the swordsman. He opened a container of round biscuits in assorted colors and sprinkles.
"So what, I'm your guinea pig?" Ike chuckled as he reached over for a blue colored cookie.
But Ike had already taken a bite out of the poffin. He let the flavor sink in but he made no signs of displeasure.
"... ... ...'ts too dry."
"Well yeah Ike, it was made for Beauty. I was going to offer you some of the spicy or sour ones, since you look like a cool or tough type."
The mercenary shrugged and grabbed a green poffin, popping it in his mouth before the trainer could protest.
Red sighed when Ike's face contorted in pain and his hands groped for his water bottle.
"BITTER!" He spat out after downing the rest of his water.
"I told you Ike, spicy or sour..." He held out a red colored poffin with yellow sprinkles.
As Ike sampled the pokemon treats, two of his secret admirers watched from afar. Both Marth and Roy gawked at how the mercenary laughed with the pokemon trainer, and how both their meals were somehow forgotten. Marth wanted to cry, he had put so much effort in cutting those apples in to the cute bunny shapes! He had a few cuts on his fingers to prove it, but they were hidden by his gloves. Roy didn't seem as angry, but still frustrated that his curry meal had lost to colorful cookies.
"This one is too sweet."
Ike flipped the pink poffin around, as if looking for the label for the flavor. There were red sprinkles topping it, but it was all around sweet.
"Hm, I wanted to make it more spicy but it turned out more sweet. Maybe I should have used more Cheri berries. Mphm!"
Ike had plugged the rest of his uneaten pink poffin into the trainer's mouth. He nonchalantly reached out for another red cookie.
"Geez Ike, you could have just handed it too much like a normal person."
The mercenary shrugged and pointed to the silver container. Red twisted the cap of his container to pour some milk for him and Ike. The two finished off the rest of the poffins in peace, entirely unaware of Ike's two suitors moping from afar.

Friends Fight for Ike (part 7)
Sticking one foot out, Ike plunged his Ragnell into his invisible opponent. He swung at the nonexistent partner a few more times and then ended his sequence with an Aether. He panted hard, totally satisfied with the amount of training he had accomplished. The mercenary let Ragnell drop to the grass as he reached over for a bottle of water. The cool liquid splashed against his mouth and he let some drip down his chin, which he later wiped off with the sleeve of his tunic.
Prince Marth approached Ike with his Falchion in hand. As he was about to tap the man on the shoulder and propose a sparring match, someone else had bounded up to the mercenary.
"Hey Ike, show me your moves!"
Marth held his face in the palm of his hand at Roy's lame attempt to imitate Captain Falcon's famous catchphrase. Ike didn't seem surprised to see the either of them. Over the period of a few days, every other encounter he had with a Smash Brother was with either Marth or Roy. He didn't know why the two wanted to hang around him so much, he didn't believe he was all that interesting of a person. And besides their kinsmen ship as swordsmen, he wasn't even of royal class, so that confused the poor mercenary even more.
"Actually Roy, I was about to ask Ike to spar, so you would have to wait."
"But Marth, I only have a few more days until I leave. You can spar with Ike any other time, so I'm afraid it will be you who has to wait."
Ike also noticed that the two always seemed to argue in front of him. They were about the silliest things too. While the two royals were clashing words, white wings caught his vision. He waved Pit over and asked if they could work on his aerial moves. The angel nodded and the two left to train elsewhere.
"Well Roy, I- Um... where did Ike go?"
"You did it again Marth, scaring him off like that."
"Me?! How do you know it's not you that he's avoiding?"
"Because I don't come off as a scary person."
"And I do?!"
The prince stomped his foot on the ground and crossed his arms.
"You know, I've about had enough of your nonsense Roy. Stop interfering with me and Ike, I would be making much more progress if you haven't come back!"
"I think you're the one that's interfering."
"Ugh! Why are you trying so hard Roy? You barely know him! Why do you have to be so determined sometimes?" Marth dropped his flailing arms back to his sides. "...I wonder, Would you have been like this if it were me?"
The red head wasn't looking at Marth, but he can tell that the prince was upset. Honestly, Roy didn't know, because back then, it was just the two of them, and things weren't so complicated. He had no answer, so he didn't speak.

Friends Fight for Ike (part 8)
"I just wanted to say goodbye, and it was great meeting you and all."
"You're leaving? So soon?"
"Yes, I'm going home, there's errands to be done, which is why I'm not in the tournament in the first place. ...I really wish I was though, then I'd be able to spend time with everyone here."
"Well, you're welcome here anytime. Hey, we never did get to spar, did we?"
Roy shook his head. "But that's okay, I'll try to come back." He took the mercenary's hand into his own. "I'm really glad that I met you Ike."
The mercenary nodded and Roy release his grip on Ike's hand. As the Pheraen strode out of the room Ike felt some sort of déjà vu wash over him.
As he was about to walk out of the door, a voice stopped him.
"You're leaving already?"
"Yup. Ike's all yours."
"...Do you have to go? Can't you stay?"
"What? So we can continue the stupid game?"
"Why would you want me to stay, I'm only ruining your chances with Ike. Besides, I have things to do back at home."
"...I missed having you here. And I didn't realize it until you came back. And now you're leaving me again. It's painful, you know?"
Roy was still facing the sunlight of the door, but he didn’t have to turn around to know who's arms had wrapped themselves around his shoulders. He let out a sardonic chuckle.
"And here I thought that you didn't care anymore."
"I'm sorry Marth, about everything." He turned around and wiped away the wetness on the prince's pale skin.
"Why should you be? I'm the only fool here."
His friend captured his lips with his own, and then Marth remembered why he fell in love with Roy in the first place.
"Well, I'm going. I'll come back, to spar with Ike, it has nothing to do with visiting you."
"Right, and I'm going to monopolize all of Ike's time so he won't even remember you when you come back."
"Sure sure, you do that."
That was epic... ...EPIC FAIL! T_T
I apologize gravely for all the OOCness that I have written, and the last part was pretty rushed.
2008-09-06 08:06 am (UTC)
This was not epic fail at all, but much awesomeness! I liked how Ike kept getting perplexed that both of them kept appearing when he was trying to do something else. He's so oblivious :D
I liked the end too, especially with their half-hearted jabs at each other. They seem to be like the type to do that. XD
Thank you very much, anon!
2008-09-14 06:29 am (UTC)
This was made of win. And love. SO MUCH OF IT. It was sweet and funny (I can't believe Ike answered the pirate/ninja question! XD), and a little bit heartbreaking. It was so much fun to read. ^^ I loved all the little references to their own worlds. (What was Ike muttering about Soren and Elincia? ^^) Marth and Roy's little "competition" to win Ike was just so amusing.
Oh. My. God. ROY CAN COOK. YOU CAN WIN TEH INTERNET NAO. The poffin scene was so cute! (Hey, are you saying Ike's not smart? >:C)
Even though Ike had the most attention here, it felt like he was the least involved in the story. XD
The last part reverted to seriousness from all the silliness. Sad, but not so, with a little light of hope. (Cheers for Marth x Roy! :D) I do hope they were joking with those last few lines. ^^;
This is probably the longest, most epic meme I've read here. :3
